Insomnia Shrine
Insomnia was a coffeeshop in Columbus, across from the Ohio State
campus. Open 24-hours, it was a large part of the Columbus experience,
until it was shut down by developers. I present some photos of the place,
so those of us who have been there can remember it. From what I know,
there apparently is another Insomnia near the middle of town, semi-related to
the closed one (long story), but it's neither 24-hours nor very accessible to
the same crowd. Insomnia was a filthy, grungy place, but it was that
atmosphere that made it cool, and attracted the most interesting people in
Columbus. Punks, Goths, and intellectuals were in there or hanging out on
the patio pretty much all the time, and occasionally bums or insane people
would wander in. The staff had good taste in music, and I met a number of people
during my times there.
